Nancy and I went to see Grandma Mary today. She'll be 96 next month, and today was a very good day for her. She couldn't exactly call us by name, but she knew the context of who we are. It was a good visit.

I finally got around to planting my basil today. I always grow it in pots on the deck since my yard doesn't get much sun. The plant marker is an idea I got from someone on pinterest. A wine cork and a bamboo skewer. I kind of like how it looks.

I got to come home from work a little early today. This is who greeted me in the backyard this afternoon.

I have been lazy when it comes to photos lately. Having an iPhone constantly handy makes it easy to take pictures whenever I see funny things. Like today, for instance. For some reason, this flag mount just cracked me up and I wanted to share it with all of you.

Remember me telling you about the non existent food allergies? I was excited tonight to add mayo to the list of foods I can eat again. Of course it has to be Duke's!

It has been a year since you first learned about my quest for the perfect broccoli/cheese soup. You may remember that the very best I ever had was in the school cafeteria where I taught elementary school. Since that time, I have ordered it many places, and have always been disappointed. Tonight, I gave it another shot. This time, I had much more success than before. This recipe I found posted on Pinterest, and it comes close. We spiced it up with just a little Texas Pete, and of course with more cheese on top.

This is such a beautiful time of year, with everything starting to bloom, and the trees getting leafier each day. I thought it would be nice to share some of the blossoms on the dogwood in our woods. This one is a volunteer, to our knowledge no one planted it, it just grew.
