Liz has been gone all weekend to an Anime convention. Tommy has been miserable without her, and was very glad when Dottie let him in her lap. It almost looks like she's practicing for when the new baby arrives.

It's the invasion of the cicadas! These bugs have been underground for the last 13 years. You wouldn't believe the racket they're making. When I went outside to take a photo, it was a little like being in an Alfred Hitchcock film.

Liz has been working diligently on a costume for an Anime convention she's attending this weekend. The character she'll be portraying is "Black Rock Shooter", and she designed and built this cannon herself. There have been a few all nighters while she was trying to get finished. She's proud of what she's done, and rightly so.

This is Louis. He lives in a classroom at Louisburg Elementary School, and he gets to hop around the room all day. He is ridiculously tame, and comes to you when you call, just like a dog. And in case you are wondering, his last name is Burg. Get it? Louis Burg.

My favorite custodian is retiring at the end of this month. He's not retiring because he doesn't want to work anymore. He's retiring because he's 82 and his body just can't do the work anymore. This morning we gave him a surprise retirement breakfast. I'm going to miss him!

Look who came back to live with us! Liz came home for the summer, and brought Tommy and Tangles with her. Tommy is the adventurous type, Tangles...not so much. We'll be lucky to see her sometime next month.

Saturday, May 14, 2011. UNC-Charlotte graduation day. Dottie has worked very hard to get to this day, and she certainly deserves the Cum Laude status she earned, with a double major in Art History and Philosophy. Here she is, advancing across the stage. We're very, very proud of her!

One thing I can say, the squash and zucchini are doing quite well on our deck. If you look closely in the bottom right hand corner, you can see a stem that used to have a beautiful blossom, that should have turned into a zucchini. I can only assume it was a squirrel.

Donald's birthday present arrived today! He's been wanting a flat screen TV for a while, and after much research selected this one. The first thing we watched was the DVR recording of Jimmy Buffett's Gulf Shores concert last summer.

It's hard to tell from this picture, but this little guy was tiny, and I was surprised to see how well the camera zoomed in. For a reference point, the plant is oregano, so that means he's about half the size of an eraser.

Look what I got to play with! We're evaluating a variety of tablet PCs at work to see what we like the best, and what value it would have in education. The one I got is a Dell Streak 7, with and Android operating system. I haven't had much time to formulate an opinion, but I'll keep you posted.
