It's guest photographer day! Thanks to Dottie for sharing this with us. As much as I wish I could say I was here for this event, I wasn't. But Dottie is good to send us pictures to keep us up to date. Patrick had his first taste of food today! From the looks of it, I'd say he had more fun playing with the avocado than eating it.

The latest toy I get to investigate, a chromebook. Our friends at CDW-G sent us two demos, that we get to test for 30 days. I was lucky to get this one first!

A brand new Aldi has opened in Wake Forest! This may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but I love to do my grocery shopping at Aldi. Yesterday was the open house, and I went at lunch time to get my free goodie bag. Today was the grand opening and I went after work to pick up a few things, and to use the 5 dollar coupon I got in the mail. Needless to say, it was packed.

I thought it might be time to give you an update on the hawk nest in our backyard. We believe she's definitely sitting on eggs. Donald can see the nest from his desk, and sometimes he can see her on the it, looking all around. This afternoon, we noticed she was moving around a little, so I tried to get a current photo. Unfortunately, all she showed me was her behind. In the meantime, while we were enjoying time on the deck after I got home, Donald saw what we believe was a bald eagle fly over our house. Life is certainly good around here.

Some days I struggle to come up with an idea for a photo. Today was one of those days. Then Donald reminded me about the beautiful azaleas blooming in the front yard. Can you believe I took this one with my iPhone?

I was lucky to get to have lunch today with two of my three nephews. We ate at Blue Water along the Intracoastal Waterway. I enjoyed watching the birds as much as I enjoyed the water and the food! I decided this was one smart bird to know the best pickings were under the high chair.

I thought it was high time to get some spring flowers in here! Many years ago, my mother in law planted wisteria in her yard. Suffice it to say it has taken over everything. At least it makes pretty flowers, with a lovely sweet smell.

Back in 1998, I was having some health problems. In my desperation to figure out what was wrong, I went and had some food allergy testing done. In the long list of things I was allergic to, eggs were one of the main culprits. For the last 14 years, I have avoided eggs like the plague. That includes cake, pie, cookies, and even flu shots. Today, I had more allergy testing done. I took the testing results from 1998, and the doctor basically told me the results then were hooey. The type of test I had done was almost a scam. To make sure, she re-tested me for eggs, and I am NOT allergic! First stop after the appointment was the grocery store. Donald and I are having quiche tonight! I wanted to cry when I found out this news, and hugged the doctor before I left.

You've met Louis before. He's the classroom pet in one of my schools. I love going in this room and visiting, because one minute he acts like a cat, and the next he acts like a dog. While I was in there today, he was in cat mode, washing his face and ears. I think that's why he has one down right now.

If you're my Facebook or plurk friend, you know that yesterday morning my glasses snapped in two. I rummaged through some old belongings and managed to find an old pair that got me through yesterday. I hightailed it to the optical store as soon as they opened today. I was afraid they would have to either send my glasses off or keep them for a while. I was delighted that they had a part that would work. It doesn't exactly match, but it's close enough to not be noticeable. I didn't even mind that it cost $70.

On the way home today, I stopped along the greenway that runs beside the Neuse river. I have wanted to do that for quite a while, but never took the time. Now I can't wait to go back! Doesn't this swing look inviting? In a small way it reminds me of the trip I took with my college friends to the Cape Fear River in Wilmington. Our swing then was just a rope with a knot, but we had so much fun swinging out over the river and dropping in the water. That's one of my favorite memories.

I went for another walk at lunch today. My route passed by an old cemetery. I don't know if I've ever told you, but there's something about old cemeteries that I find intriguing. I love to look at the headstones, read the names, figure out how they were, and just wonder about their lives in general. I think this man must have been important to have such an impressive marker placed on his grave. And do you see that wrought iron fence? It encircled this plot, which was inside a larger cemetery. Fascinating to me.

Donald and I first had a Chicken Speedie at Paradise Cafe in Holden Beach. It is a sandwich we look forward to each time we visit there. Oddly enough, on my last trip to the grocery store, I happened upon bottled Speedie sauce. So, tonight was Chicken Speedie experimentation night! Here is the result of my endeavor, a chicken speedie sandwich with homemade tzatziki sauce, lettuce and tomatoes on pita bread. I don't know if we'll ever want another one. It was ridiculously good. The roasted potato wedges were the perfect side, and so much healthier than french fries. If I didn't have to work so many hours during the week, I could do fun things like this all the time.

It's that time of year when I go for my annual physical. As hard as this is to believe, I am on the verge of being considered "overweight". Quite honestly, I don't see it, but I suppose the numbers don't lie. My doctor suggested I follow the Mediterranean diet. This is a cookbook I happened to have so Donald and I have been going through it trying to figure out how we can incorporate some of the principals into what we already do. It's not easy, folks, when you have a busy lifestyle. We'll manage somehow.

The conference officially started today. We were very proud of this particular group of students. They came from one of our high schools, and were demonstrating how they use Google docs as part of their culinary arts program. They did an amazing job of representing our district, and sharing their knowledge.

Today I'm sharing with you a moment frozen in time. You've all seen the cute growth charts that you hang in your toddler's room. In my family, the growth chart was the door jamb in the coat closet. If you look really close, you can see my name, as well as Chad's on this side. The other side has Charlie and James. I hope we never paint over this.
