Day 88 of 365. I am trying to make sure I get up and move every day instead of being stuck to an office chair. The day has been absolutely beautiful, just what a spring day should be...not too hot and not too cold. Around the edges of the parking lot some volunteer dogwoods have come up. The flowering dogwood is the state flower of NC, so I thought that would make a good photo today. Looks like this little guy is also enjoying the blossoms.

Day 87 of 365. I am continuing with the theme of blooms and blossoms today. I took a quick walk around the school grounds today, hoping I would see something interesting. Some people view these as a nuisance, but when I see them it brings back memories of summertime and childhood.

Day 86 of 365. I am declaring this week to be blooms and blossoms week. It appears that spring is finally here, and along with that comes beautiful blossoms on trees. While I was putting the horse up, I noticed the cherry tree in the pasture and thought that would be perfect for today's photo. It was a bonus that honey bees had also noticed the tree.

Day 85 of 365. We got more time with the grandkids today, which included a ride in the wagon.

Day 84 of 365. What a fun day! We had a family reunion on Donald's side of the family, then Dottie and her crew came over for a bit. I can't think of a single thing in the world that is better than this.

It doesn't get much better than this.

Day 83 of 365. Today was field trip day for the freshmen at both ECHS and Cabarrus Tech. Nice perk of the job! Here's a funny sign I saw.

Day 81 of 365. These little guys are not yet a week old. They were so wiggly that it was hard to get a good picture of them. We think the black one is a boy, and not sure about the orange one.

Two little farm cat kittens.

Day 80 of 365. A couple days late posting the picture from Tuesday. We've had a cold snap lately, enough to make me bring in my potted plants. Last year, this was one lily plant. It has certainly expanded! I hope it blooms.

Jolly Mon loves to sit in the bathroom window.Day 79 of 365. Happy first day of Spring! It was a beautiful day! When the weather is this nice, we like to open the windows. Jolly Mon loves to sit in the bathroom window and watch the squirrels.

Day 77 of 365. It turned out to be a beautiful Saturday! After a week of cold temperatures, it was nice enough to get out and go for a walk this afternoon. I can't explain it, but I have always loved seeing a bare tree silhouetted against the sky.

Day 76 of 365. I absolutely love working with these kids. Lately, they've been building a putt putt course to use with our Sphero robotic balls. These two are in the active construction process of building a bridge.

Day 75 of 365. One of my fondest memories of growing up in Concord is Pancake Day at the Boys and Girls Club. It is an annual tradition that has been going on for around 60 years, and almost the entire town of Concord supports it. My mother and I went around 7:30 for breakfast.

Day 74 of 365. "In the spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love." Or in this case, cats. Pretty sure we're going to have a new crop of kittens soon. I've noticed three females that look as though they are ready, including this little barn cat.

Pretty sure this one is going to have kittens.

Emergency

March 13, 2017

Day 72 of 365. Back in October, I had a little accident at work. I fell down the stairs at the Opportunity School while I was carrying printers to the surplus truck. My foot rolled all the way over, and I felt the top of my foot scrape the top of the stair. Anyway, I had to go through workman's comp, and I really don't feel I received the level of care I would have received had I gone to my own doctor. After all these months, my foot still hurts so I took the initiative back in February to go for a second opinion. My primary care doctor immediately referred me to an orthopedist. X-rays confirmed what I had thought all along, my foot had what they call an avulsion fracture. Basically, that is where the tendons are pulled so far a piece of bone breaks off. At this point, it is too late to put me in a boot so we just have ride it out so to speak. She did give me some exercises to complete at home. Today I went for my follow up appointment and took advantage of the x-rays pulled up on the screen. Here's a funny shot of my feet.

Day 71 of 365. It really happened! It snowed overnight, and it currently still snowing this morning (just about 8:30 right now). I know it won't last, the temps are supposed to be well above freezing today, but it is just beautiful to watch it come down.

Day 70 of 365. I first learned to love working a crossword puzzle when I was a freshman in college. My next door neighbors in the dorm were the ones who got me hooked. The three of us would sit on one of our beds with the puzzle from the Charlotte Observer and work it together. There is still something about a puzzle in the newspaper that is completely different from a puzzle online. I have gone for many, many years without subscribing to paper, but recently subscribed again. I found it funny that either the Charlotte Observer knows my eyes are over 50, or they don't have enough to fill the space. In any event, I could read all the clues just fine without having to use a magnifying glass! For the record, I completely finished!

Day 69 of 365. The Early Colleges have been on spring break this week since they closely follow the RCCC schedule. I don't think I would have noticed these clouds on a day when the parking lot was full. I thought they were cool.

Day 67 of 365. Today's photo is a screen shot. It's not unheard of for us to get snow in Concord during the month of March, but it is unusual. I am watching and waiting to see if it really happens.

Day 66 of 365. The true name of these flowers are Forsythia, but I have called them Yellow Bells for as long as I can remember. Whatever you choose to say, they are absolutely beautiful, but the blooms don't last long.

Day 63 of 365. We celebrated two birthdays today! Both Liz and Keith have birthdays on March 8 and both of them have an intense love of oysters. So, Linda and Keith were able to bring some good ones from Wilmington and we had a mini oyster roast at the house in Raleigh.

Day 62 of 365. One of the things I learned about at my conference is a Marvel comics website where kids can create their own superhero. Patrick LOVES superheroes so of course I wanted to show him. What I didn't think about is that even though he is quite literate using a phone or tablet device, he has had little experience using a laptop computer. It turned into a quick lesson on how to use the track pad, clicking the mouse, and using two fingers to click and drag an object around. In true fashion, he mastered it quickly.

Day 61 of 365. It is Sunday morning, and I am catching up on my posts. While I have been diligent about taking pictures, I have not taken the time over the last few days to upload or write about. I mentioned on Wednesday that I have been in Raleigh for my annual technology conference. I look forward to this every year, and like all conferences, some sessions are better than others. I ended the day with a great one! A professor from UNC Chapel Hill was the presenter, and we all made a digital microscope! It works surprisingly well, and I am looking forward to not only taking it back to school, but having our students create their own! This is a photo before we got into the actual construction process.

Day 59 of 365. It's Mardi Gras! I have only been to New Orleans twice, but both trips certainly made an impression on me. The first time I went, sometime in the early 90s, I discovered the deliciousness that is etoufee. I remember my first bite, and how I almost melted it was so good. Back in Concord, I discovered this mix at Food Lion and gave it a try. It is *almost* as good as what I had in NOLA. Sadly, they don't sell it anymore so I buy it directly from the Louisiana Fish Fy company. I still want to make my own from scratch, but this is good on a night when you've worked all day and want it quick.

Day 58 of 365. What a great surprise on TV tonight! We missed the first hour, but that didn't really matter. People make fun of the 80s all the time, but to me it was my time as a young adult, when I thought I had the world by the tail. I love it when I stumble on a reminder of that time. Now if I could only find a DeLorean...
