It's guest photographer day! Donald had his once-a-year lunch with his high school buddies today. They had the waitress take their picture, and I wanted to share it with you. Left to right: Tony, Donald, Todd and Randy. Sometimes it works out so I can go too. It's always good for a laugh to hear about their teenage shenanigans.

One of the perks of coming to Wilmington is the access to fresh seafood. The man who lives two doors down is a shrimper and sells the shrimp out of his backyard. We got 20 pounds of shrimp that were swimming this morning. We're going to love this taste of summer when the weather is cold.

As hard as this is to believe, I actually took a day off work today. That's an unusual occurance in my life. But, we've been working so hard lately, and I've been so tired that I thought it would be nice. So, Donald and I took the opportunity to come to Wilmington a day early. Here's the view we had at dinner. So nice.

Back during the depression, my grandfather would go out on trash day, just ahead of the garbage trucks. He would take things that people had thrown out, bring them home, and fix them up to sell. He was quite good at it, and he was able to make a little extra money. When I watch the TV show "American Pickers" I think that must be what he was, a picker. He had a barn in his back yard that was full of all the junk he collected. I don't know if it's genetic, but I always notice things on the side of road that people throw out. Donald has gotten used to this, and is even picking up the habit. When I got home today, here is Donald's latest find, a pair of Cypress Gardens skis, picked out of someone's trash.

Yesterday Donald came to work with me and helped set up computers in the new school. Unfortunately, he lost his pocket knife while he was there. On a hunch, I went by first thing and actually found his knife! It was in the trash.

Sorry for such a terrible photo today, but let me explain. We're opening a new school in our county, and today the technology department worked as a team setting up computers. I completely abused my feet today. Not only do my piggies need a pedicure, my poor feet are a little swollen from all the walking I did. All that aside, we got a lot accomplished, and we get to do it all again once the network is connected.

There's a small restaurant in Concord that has been there as long as I can remember. The owner of this restaurant has quite a green thumb. While I was waiting for my food, I was delighted to see a pomegranate tree beside the drive through.

I've been waiting for an opportunity to take some pictures of the crape myrtles that are blooming right now. This one happens to be in my mother's front yard. The funny thing is, when I was in 5th grade I thought it would be great fun to try riding a motor bike. I hit this tree, went straight up in the air and turned a flip. Luckily none of us were hurt, not me, the tree or the motor bike. Suffice it to say that's the last time I ever tried to ride anything on two wheels with a motor.

Liz and I are still working on cake pops. Yesterday we perfected the coating process. Today, we're decorating. Liz has the unique ability to be able to create what she sees inside her head onto the pops. I guess that's why she's the art major.

This old tree sits just outside one of the school buildings where I work. I just love it. It also has some pretty neat gnarled branches, that I'll try to get some pictures of in the future. For now, I wanted you to see how big it is, so thank goodness for self timers. I wonder how long it has been here?

Dottie and Jon had all of us over for a pre July 4th cookout today. I happened to glance into the den and saw Dottie and her dad checking out the music on the iPod. Music has been an important part of their lives since Dottie was a baby, and they've run the gamut of music technology from vinyl records, to CDs and now to digital. Pretty neat to see.

My Father In Law was quite an accomplished guitar player. He even had his own band back in the 70s and played gigs around Wilmington. Unfortunately, I only had the pleasure of hearing him play once. The last time he played, he gave his guitar to Donald. We took it to a guitar shop to have it repaired, and they basically drooled over it. That made us feel pretty good.
