I'm cheating today. I took this picture yesterday, but I know what my afternoon will be like, and I just haven't had a chance to get out and take pictures yet. So, you get this fun one. Dottie and Jon had a wedding to attend in Charlotte yesterday. Donald and I went along and kept Patrick during the ceremony. Because they were all dressed up, we wanted to get some good pictures of them as a family. I couldn't resist the fun-ness of this!

I thought I would share a relic from my childhood today. Back in 1970, my parents built a patio in our backyard. My sisters and I each took our turn putting our hands in this block. My father put a penny from the year we were born under our hands and wrote our names. I can remember measuring my hand against my sisters', wishing and waiting to be as big as they were. For the record, my hands did get as big as theirs, but I never grew quite as tall as either of them. I guess this will be one of the things we each want one day.

Hawk update: Mama bird is still sitting on the nest. It's harder to see now that all the leaves have come in on the trees. Every evening, we hear the male call to her and she leaves the nest and flies to him. They sit on a nearby tree for just a few minutes and she goes back to the nest. Once when we were watching, she had a small animal in her talons. Donald found this feather while he was mowing the heard today.

I have finally taken the plunge and joined a produce co op. Today, I received my second delivery! It is so exciting coming home to see what is in the box, even though I know ahead of time. This week, I got red leaf lettuce, kale, cucumbers, cilantro, carrots, white sweet potatoes, and strawberries. I think we'll be eating lots of salads this week!

My love affair with eggs continues. The art teacher at Youngsville Elementary gave me some eggs from the chickens she keeps. I'm super excited to use them tonight to make a quiche!

For the first time in a very long time, Donald has felt like woodworking again. He's currently working on two new styles. You can see the works in progress, especially the one on the left. So far, my favorite is the one on the right. And I love that he's using scrap wood!

Remember the other day when I told you about the plant sale at the high school? Here are more plants I bought. These are hibiscus, but we have no idea what color they'll be. I got one for me, and one for each of my sisters in law. Should be fun to watch them grow!

Back on July 6 of last year, I took a picture of an enormous tree outside the computer lab at one of my schools. I promised more pictures of that tree. You can see that post here. Today, I saw at least six squirrels playing on the tree. I believe they are juveniles. This little guy posed for me.

This picture will be meaningless to most of you. What you see is the empty space that used to house mobile units at one of my schools. They had been there forever, and the teachers who were in there were awfully sad to see them go. I have to admit, I was sad to see them go too.

A few weeks ago, my boss bought and moved into a new house. I went by to say hello, and took Thug with me because rumor had it his oldest daughter loves pugs. Today, when I got to work, I had this awesome letter in my seat. This is the best work surprise I've ever had.

Way back last fall, Donald and I found some bear swings in the trash pile at someone's driveway. (You may remember that post here.) Since we had a new grandson, we immediately stopped to pick them up. We've waited all this long time to give them a try. I think we scored a big hit with this one! Here's a bonus video. Please pardon the goofy adults in the background.

Donald told me yesterday that plane painted like Air Force One was doing touch and go landings at the Wilmington airport. I was lucky enough today to be outside in the backyard with my camera when it flew directly overhead. We think it is an official aircraft, but not the actual plane used for Air Force One. Pretty cool, huh?

I finally got around to planting my basil today. I always grow it in pots on the deck since my yard doesn't get much sun. The plant marker is an idea I got from someone on pinterest. A wine cork and a bamboo skewer. I kind of like how it looks.

It has been a year since you first learned about my quest for the perfect broccoli/cheese soup. You may remember that the very best I ever had was in the school cafeteria where I taught elementary school. Since that time, I have ordered it many places, and have always been disappointed. Tonight, I gave it another shot. This time, I had much more success than before. This recipe I found posted on Pinterest, and it comes close. We spiced it up with just a little Texas Pete, and of course with more cheese on top.

This is such a beautiful time of year, with everything starting to bloom, and the trees getting leafier each day. I thought it would be nice to share some of the blossoms on the dogwood in our woods. This one is a volunteer, to our knowledge no one planted it, it just grew.
