"The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches, and then moves on." ~Carl Sandburg
I drove through all this fog on my way to work this morning. I like the poem better than the actual fog.

I expanded my cooking horizons today. For the first time I cooked with chipotle peppers, and they came out of this can. I found a recipe on pinterest for spicy bean and rice burritos (you can see the recipe here tastykitchen.com/recipes/main-courses/spicy-bean-and-rice...). Everybody loved it, even Ariana who hates beans.

Every time we go to Concord, we have to make a trip to Troutman's for breakfast. It's an institution in town.

The life of an Instructional Technology Facilitator isn't all glamour. In fact, it isn't glamorous at all. Here you see how I spent my lunch. Imaging six machines at one time.

Look who surprised us tonight! Liz popped in for just a few minutes on her way to Baltimore. She got here in time for supper, and I'm glad I could get some good food in her before her cosplay weekend.

I'm pulling one from the archives today, but it is a recent archive. Here's another scene from our weekend. Patrick loves to swing.

Every once in a while, you get a phone call at night with news that makes you feel like someone has kicked you in the stomach. That happened to me last night with the news that my grandmother Mary had a heart attack. The news I got was that it was a mild one, and that she was in good spirits. But because I am hard to convince in these situations, I decided to go home today and see for myself. And you know what? She was in good spirits! She laughed, talked coherently, ate her entire breakfast, and didn't have a clue who I was. (Although I think she did know that she was supposed to know me.) While I'm still worried about her, I do feel better after today's visit.

We had a surprise visit from a cute 10 month old today. He has already figured out what a camera is, and when one comes out, he comes to you. He almost got it this time!

There is nothing like spending time with an old friend. Shelly came to spend the night with me. Donald laughed at me because I waited on her in the garage. (Maryanne, we missed you more than you know.)

After 13 years of holding robotics camp in Franklin County, word is getting out. A reporter from the local newspaper came to visit us today, interviewing each of the students, as well as the two of us camp leaders. I can't wait to see the write up!

I've been working crazy hours lately. By the time I've been getting home, I hardly feel like eating. But today, I left a little early. We had dinner together in the dining room for the first time in what feels like forever. It wasn't an extravagant meal, but it was good and so nice to be together.

Advanced Robotics Camp started this week. I really didn't want to use something other than a picture of camp, but the day got busy. These two boys worked together to build this robot. It functions like a machine gun. The great thing is, they built one last year in camp and it didn't do what they wanted. They waited an entire year to try again. Nice to have some success on the first day.

This how I spent my Sunday; cutting corn off the cob to freeze. I had 26 ears to put up, which sounds like a lot but the work went quickly. Several years ago, I watched an episode of Good Eats with Alton Brown and he talked about using your Bundt pan when you cut corn. I filed that away in my brain and decided to give it a shot today. It worked beautifully. It really did keep the corn from flying all over the place, and it kept what I had already cut contained. I'll definitely remember this trick.

I thought I would spare you another robotics picture today, even though I had plenty. Instead, you get a representation of the evening. It was nice enough when I got home from work to sit in the deck for a little while. It was a much needed reprieve after a grueling week. Here you have the view from my chair, looking out into the yard (with a little dog of course).

Hope you're not tired of robotics pictures, because we have one more day of it tomorrow. Anyway, this year we have just as many girls as boys, which is unusual. The differences came out today when the girls wanted to name their robots, and the boys just wanted to battle.

More wildlife babies in our backyard! Donald's been seeing this little fawn for a while, but I had my first sighting today. Something is wrong with the mother's hind leg. She was limping pretty bad, but getting around OK. She certainly is doing a good job of taking care of her baby.

Happy July! I talked Donald into going to school with me today to help set up new computers. It is much easier to do that when no one is there. While we were there, it "came up a cloud" as my grandmother used to day. This is what we encountered on our way home.
