I hardly ever take time to read anymore. You see, I have this problem that when I read, I become completely and totally absorbed in the book. It's almost as if once I start a book I have to finish it in one sitting. I've been known to read all night so I can read a book from beginning to end. The last time I spent time reading, I realized I would get mad when my family would interrupt me for some random question like, "What are we having for dinner?" All of these things are reasons I gave it up. But, recently I heard an NPR segment about a series of childrens' books that so intrigued me I went and bought the first book. The series is The 39 Clues. What's unique about these books is they are mysteries and have an online component. So you read the books, then you go online and play the games to help solve the mystery. Right up my alley! As you can see from the photo, Thug the pug is helping me read.

Our district recently ordered some SMART tables for our ESL students. The tables were delivered on Monday, and these students are experimenting with it for the first time. They felt a little shy about me taking pictures of them, but once they got started, they didn't even know I was in the room.

It was back to work today after a 2 1/2 week vacation. While I was glad to get back to a regular routine, at some point during the day I realized I hadn't worn real shoes for more than a few hours since my last day at work. All day long I wished for my bedroom shoes, and that was the first thing I did when I got home.

Back in the spring I won a gardening basket at an auction. It contained quite an assortment of plants, including parsley. I planted the parsley behind the house, without any hopes of it surviving. You can imagine my surprise when I noticed not only did it survive a blistering summer, it also survived the recent snowstorm.

Those of you that know me know that I have a love affair with bread. Not just any bread, but really good artisan bread. This could be the reason I can't seem to drop any more weight. For Christmas this year, Liz gave me a book entitled "Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day" and I have been anxious to try it out. Yesterday was the perfect day to try my hand at bread making. The technique is a bit unusual in that you make the dough, and then store it in the refrigerator and pull off a chunk each day. The dough can last up to 14 days in the fridge. Anyway, here you can see the first loaf, which is whole wheat. For the record, it is delicious! Even Donald, who does not like whole wheat products, thought it was awesome.
