I went to Ikea over the weekend while I was in Concord celebrating my mother's birthday. The purpose of the trip was to buy another high chair for Patrick. For a very long time, I have wanted one certain pillow they sell. I had made up my mind that I was just going to go ahead and buy it. Sadly, it looks like they don't sell the one I wanted anymore. So instead, I bought two of these to go in our den. I think it matches Donald's chair quite well.

I'm using another picture from this weekend, and another one taken by nephew Chad. When my Uncle Charlie found out I had been taking guitar lessons, he said he had something for me. He surprised me this weekend with the mandolin he had as a boy. As near as I can tell, this one was manufactured during the depression, and was marketed as an economy model. I'll have it restored eventually, and will hopefully learn to play it.

At last! The conference ended and I got to come home. It doesn't matter how many times I travel out of state, there is nothing like the feeling of being home in North Carolina. Looking out the window as we made our descent, I can't quite describe how I felt looking over our landscape. I guess the best way to sum it up is this is MY home, and this is where I belong.

For my birthday this year, Donald surprised me with a pasta attachment for my KitchenAid mixer. Today was our first attempt at making pasta. We decided to make fettuccine, and served it with an alfredo sauce. It made a TON of pasta, but the good news is it can be frozen. The result? It was absolutely delicious! I want to experiment now with other varieties, including spinach and eggless.

Donald and his sisters spent some time at their paretns' house today, going through and deciding who wants what, what needs to be donated, and what needs to be discarded. During the search, Donald found this book, dated July 23, 1941. It's an Army field manual, and basically tells you how to be a soldier. Judging from the looks, I think this is one of the things that survived the house fire back in the late 60s.

I am diligent about keeping Thug up to date on his flea medication. That said, we're battling them right now. I brush him every day with the furminator, bathe him with flea shampoo, and use a flea spray. I am still finding fleas. Looks like we're making a trip to the vet this weekend.

Well, we did it. We bought a high chair for the house. Patrick is getting better and better at feeding himself, but he needs his own chair. Dottie picked this one out from Ikea, so we picked it up when we were there this weekend.

I did something I rarely do today. I actually took my hour for lunch. There's a park not far from school, and since it was such a beautiful day, I decided to spend a little time outdoors. This park has an extensive walking trail, and all along there are swings. I found one in the shade and there was the perfect spot to enjoy my lunch. I've got to say, it was quite nice.
