Thug's in control of the remote control again. I don't think he cares what we watch.

It was very hard to come up with an idea for today's picture. I thought about taking a picture of a thermometer because it's so hot. But then I checked Facebook and everyone is posting pictures of their thermometer. So I looked around and had this cookbook out on the counter. Aren't these the best? Tried and true recipes from church ladies.

Behold my afternoon angst. It's stuck, on the outside and it's after 5. After a slight panic, I remembered the custodian was still there. He couldn't get it out either and wound up taking the entire lock off to get it out. I need to make him some cookies.

You never know where you'll find one. :-) (Sorry for the blurriness. I was having a hard time holding the camera still.)

Yesterday, on the way home from Lexington, Kentucky, I stopped in Lexington, North Carolina to pick up this surf board for Charlie. Funny how you still do things for your nephews even after they're all grown up.

One last picture from my trip because it's back to reality and work tomorrow. James was showing my mother the picture from his graduating class and telling her a little about each of them.

Today was the day for sight seeing! We went to the Kentucky Horse Park, and were lucky enough to catch a show while we were there. This was the Hall of Champions and they showed some retired champion race horses. This is Go For Gin and was the winner of the 1994 Kentucky Derby. Apparently he is full of personality and put on quite the show for all of us. We all laughed when we saw this because it looks like the girl in the background is laughing just like the horse.

There's nothing special about this picture except it is the back of James' house. Shortly before I took this photo, the grass was about knee high. The life of a second year resident is brutal, and James doesn't have much time off. When he is off, he spends his time sleeping. I can't do many things for him anymore, but I could mow his yard. It was a great surprise for him to get home from work tonight.

One of the things I love about working in a rural community is that I get to see things I never saw growing up in a city (even if it was small). When I got to school early today, this farmer was out checking the fields. Maybe he was thinking about what to plant next.

Make a wish! Couldn't resist this dandelion that was in the parking lot as I left work.

I think I have always been a people person. I love to just listen to people and hear their life stories. Like this teacher for instance. He was a firefighter in NY prior to 9-11, and now he's a school teacher. I never knew that until I saw his helmet hanging inhis classroom.

Who could resist a face like this? He might be getting old and losing his hearing, but he's still got a lot of spunk.

Donald was lucky enough to catch one of the juvenile hawks this afternoon. It has been so much fun to watch them grow and we wonder how much longer they'll hang around.

Lately I have avoided going to Walmart. It's always so crowded that it makes for an unpleasant trip. Instead, I've been going to K-Mart to get the things we need. I saw these while I was there and seriously considered buying a pair, and I would have if they hadn't cost $39.00. Don't judge me.

I am convinced that pockets were invented just for me. It occurred to me that I've never shown you the contents of my pockets. So here you have it. A Swiss army knife, some random keys, a battery, lip gloss, a pen, and a couple of flash drives. On the rare occasions when I don't have pockets, I am lost and it's really hard to do my job.

Took a quick walk around the school grounds today with the idea to take pictures of the Queen Anne's Lace that surrounds the parking lot. I remember picking these flowers as a child to give to my mother. Even though this one is not fully in bloom, I love the bug hiding under the blossom.

There's a butterfly bush in front of Youngsville Elementary. I have been waiting until I had time to get out there and take pictures. I didn't know until I looked at these on the computer that one was flying by.

Not only was today Meatless Monday, it also turned into experimentation Monday. We recently made chicken Marsala, and I wondered if we could just cook the mushrooms and make a Marsala sauce. Here you have the results, and I must say this is the best experiment I have ever done. All three of us went back for seconds, with no leftovers for my lunch tomorrow. This is absolutely one we need to remember!

My Mother In Law's legacy lives on. I took a field trip around her yard this afternoon, and found these lilies tucked in a corner behind the house. She would be so pleased.

Today has been a pretty great day. First of all, Donald got up with Thug and let me sleep in. I didn't get up until 7:15! That's just crazy. Secondly, we came to Wilmington and have a nice cool house after having the AC unit replaced. Thirdly, they have opened a Whole Foods here, and lastly, they're building a Trader Joe's! So excited to see the construction has started!

It has been a while since you've picture of Thug. His age is starting to catch up with him. He's moving more slowly these days, and it appears he is losing his hearing. He no longer hears when we come home, and we have to go search for him. I have to admit I've been scared more than once when I couldn't wake him up easily. But, he's still happy and content and very much loved.

I have a new obsession, and it's almost strong enough to make me go to the grocery store every day. I don't know if they do it everywhere or not, but Harris Teeter and Lowe's Foods will take produce that is about to go out of date, package it and sell it for very low prices. This is just a sample of what I have purchased recently but it's not the best deal I have gotten. It is so much fun to see what's there.

I had a very long day at work today. It wasn't necessarily a bad day, but it was long. At one point during the day I just wanted a cupcake. When I got home, I remembered I had a boxed cake mix in the pantry, and I also remembered I had seen a way to make the cake with Greek yogurt. Here's the final product. One box of cake mix, one cup of plain Greek yogurt, and one cup of water. It tastes OK by itself, but it tastes great when you add cream cheese frosting.

I'm still plugging away at trying to learn to play the guitar. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that this is the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. But I like it. Because the weather was so nice this weekend, I practiced outside. I realized I could see my reflection in the door, and decided to do a self portrait. One thing I need to work on is posture.

One of the joys of being a woman is that you get to have a certain kind of exam once a year. I'm not talking about your annual exam, I'm talking about the screen for breast cancer. Today was my lucky day, and while I was waiting, I couldn't figure out why in the world they would have a wine cooler in the office unless they really wanted you to relax. However, this cooler just had water. After my exam I didn't care about drinking the water, I just wanted to press the cold bottles against my body. If you've ever had a mammogram, you know exactly what I mean.
