When I was teaching in Concord, the school cafeteria made the best broccoli cheese soup I've ever had. I still wish I could have just one more bowl. Since I moved away, I have been on a quest to find soup that comes even slightly close. Tonight, I decided to try my hand at making my own. See that bowl of soup? Worst. Soup. Ever. It was so bad, I couldn't eat it. My quest continues.

What crazy weather we're having. One day it's sunny and warm, the next it's cold and rainy. I don't know how to dress in the mornings. From the looks of things in our front yard, even the azaleas are confused.

I was delighted to see the first butterfly of the season today! I believe it's a tiger swallowtail, and it was drinking water from the mud outside our office door. It really didn't appreciate that I was trying to take its picture.

AIG students are planting a garden again this year. This time, they've built a raised bed, which you can't really tell here. When I got to work this morning, it looks like some seeds have germinated. Not sure what these are, but I think they're some sort of pea or bean.

I have been hungry all day long. It hasn't mattered what I've eaten or what I haven't eaten, I just haven't been able to get full. Worse than that, I was craving something sweet. Luckily for me, the grocery store sells ready made cookie dough! Happiness prevails.

Donald and I took a shopping excursion to Smithfield today. We both needed new Sperry's and knew there was a store there. When we arrived, Donald headed toward the men's, and I headed to the women's. We we met back in the middle, here's what we each selected. We found it highly amusing that the shoes are so similar.

Tonight was date night! We went here, to Tap City. It's a pretty neat restaurant. The food is great, and they have 32 beers on tap, which makes Donald very happy. If you look closely, you can see our legs in the reflection on the door.

Check out the newest app I've downloaded for the iPad! It's the Time Warner cable app, and it lets me watch TV on the iPad! Now, Donald can watch what he wants, and I can watch what I want. Brilliant!

March 23, 2011 Part 2
Today is bonus round day! Since it is Sunrise/Sunset day, here's part 2. My sunset is not near as impressive as my sunrise. However, this is the view from my back deck this evening.
March 23, 2011 Part 1
Today is Worldwide Sunrise and Sunset Day, at least according to a group I joined on flickr. You're supposed to take a photo of the sunrise and sunset in your location and post them to the group. Kind of a neat idea if you think about it. Here is my sunrise, seen as I was driving to work. For those of you who are worried, I pulled over to take it.

I have no idea what these trees are called, but I absolutely love them. My mother's neighbor, Betty, always said they were tulip trees. But, when I looked that up, it came up as a poplar. So I still don't know. This one happens to be in the front yard of one of my schools.

Right outside my trailer our school system has the right of way. This is part of the gate that blocks the drive. You don't know how many days I wish I could unlock it and park right outside my door.

Donald grew up in a neighborhood very similar to mine. Lots of kids to play with, and now the parents of those children are becoming elderly. One of the dads is Mr. George and he would take Donald out fishing, in a boat, when he was a boy. Mr. George still loves to fish, and occasionally we buy shrimp and oysters from him. Yesterday, Mr. George surprised us with the fish you see here. He didn't catch this batch, but had enough and wanted to share. For the record, it is whiting and it was delicious.

Spring is almost here! I love the colors that are popping up all over the place, even in places you don't expect. Here, the maple tree is putting out its seeds. It wont be long before they turn into helicopters.

I had a rather full day today and didn't get a chance to take any photos until tonight. Once we got to Wilmington I took the camera outside, sat it on a plant stand, set it for a long exposure, and pressed the button. What you see is a slightly overgrown flowerbed that was planted by my Mother in Law. One of these days I'm going to get in there and pull weeds.

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. I felt the need to get something new for the occasion so I stopped at Target on the way home. I found this necklace and earrings on the clearance rack! I've never worn such a chunky necklace, but what the heck. Do you think I'll feel like I'm wearing a bunch of marbles around my neck?

We haven't had many fireplace fires this year. While we love them, they really don't do much to warm up the room. However, on days like today when there is just a little chill in the air, a fireplace fire works very well.

This year, Santa Claus brought this CD for Donald. It is a little known fact that Santa loves to listen to NPR. Once when I, I mean Santa, was driving to Wilmington, one of the NPR shows was interviewing Rosanne Cash. She was talking about her new CD. When she was much younger, her dad made her a list of what he thought were the 100 most important songs and she has recorded some of those songs. As it turns out, the CD is awesome and has become one of our favorites. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Last week schools around the US celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The art teacher at one of my schools made this sculpture of One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. I believe that's my favorite Dr. Seuss book.

You've seen my camellias before. Every time I see one, it makes me think of my grandmother. One of the few things I remember about her is that she had a plant in her yard and loved the beautiful blooms. She also had a hydrangea that she called a snowball bush.
