Back in the spring, our 2nd grade classes worked to plant a butterfly garden. Over the summer, the custodian has been diligent about watering the garden every day. I was delighted to see how much the flowers have grown and amount of butterflies and moths it is attracting. This happens to be a hummingbird moth. They're often mistaken for hummingbirds, but it's really a moth.

The weather channel said it was 103* with a heat index of 113. I went out very briefly to see if there was anything worthy of taking a picture of. This butterfly was just hanging out in the woods behind our house today. I wonder if it was as hot as I was?

I have finally come to terms with the squirrels eating the birdseed from my feeders. But this is not OK. Just a little while after I took this, this particular squirrel had unscrewed the bottom and emptied one of our hummingbird feeders. The next time we looked, all three of the feeders had lost their bottoms.

I apologize for the poor quality of this photo, but when I looked out the window Tuesday morning and saw the two deer in the backyard, I knew I had to take the picture. They're eating the seeds that have fallen out and are on the ground. I guess they're having a hard time finding food in this heat.

Today has been a busy day and I didn't have time to take pictures. So, I pulled one out of the archives for you. If you know me, you know I've been going to the beach for my entire life. A few weeks ago, I found my first shark tooth!

This is my favorite view as we are coming in to Wilmington. We cross the Cape Fear River between Pender and New Hanover Counties on I 40. I took this shot as we driving over in the car. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of my shirt.

My apologies for not getting my photo uploaded yesterday. Working these 10 hours days sometimes makes it difficult in the evenings to get around to everything I want. Anyway, we're in the middle of Advanced Robotics camp this week. This is my first experience with this camp, and I am amazed at what these students can do with their robots. Here's one of our campers, deeply concentrating on what he wants his robot, which is Godzilla, to do.

My mother and I had lunch with some old friends today. Mrs. McKeon, on the left, is one of my mother's former nursing students. They struck up a friendship and our families would spend lots of time together in the summers. Maureen, in the middle, and I used to play together and we even took vacations together.
