Such a beautiful night tonight! We sat out on the deck watching the birds. A noise above our heads startled us, and when we looked up, the squirrel was eating the flowers on the maple tree. At least it wasn't the food from the bird feeder.

When I was a little girl, I would lay on the floor underneath our coffee table and unscrew the wing nuts that were holding the legs in place. I've told this story many times to Donald and the girls, they of course just laughed. Recently, my mother gave us the coffee table and we're going to use it in our den. Donald spent some time cleaning it today, and when he flipped it over, he found my signature. Proof positive of my childhood shenanigans.

Today we celebrated my aunt and uncle's 55th wedding anniversary. I never knew they went to SC to get married, and never had a reception to celebrate their marriage. So here we are, 55 years later. When they asked my uncle if he had anything he wanted to say, all he said was, "It's been a good ride."

I did a little gardening today, which included pulling up some volunteer oak trees. This one pulled up perfectly, with the acorn still attached! Too bad I'm not a classroom teacher anymore. How much fun would it be to show this to students?

It's been a while since I've checked the photo challenge/idea website. Took a look at it today, and the challenge was to look for something that signified new growth. A walk around the back yard gave lots of options, but I liked these leaves growing from the tree trunk.

This is Molly. She's a barn owl that is raising owlets in San Marcos, CA. I've been watching her since before the owlets hatched. It has completely fascinated me watching her feed and take care of the babies. You can watch her here: www.ustream.tv/theowlbox.

Out of all the pictures I've taken over the last year and half, it occurred to me today that I have never taken a picture of the front yard. Here, I'm standing on the front porch. You can see the driveway on the right.

Friday night turned out to be date night for Donald and me. He's been collecting pilsner glasses for years, so when they brought his beer in this Fat Tire glass, he wanted it. Did you know that restaurants will typically sell you the glasses if you want them? They are usually between $2 and $4. This one was 4, and they even washed it for us.

Had lunch with my friends Leamon and Mary today at their house. They live on about 20 acres and there's a pond almost in their backyard. These five ducks live in the pond, and they travel everywhere in a pack, not to mention how vocal they were! They quacked and quacked so much that a still picture just doesn't do it justice.

Friday turned out to be a very busy day, and I'm not getting around to uploading my photo of the day until this morning. I think I'm developing an unnatural obsession with squirrels. Or maybe it's just that we have an abundance of them in our backyard.
