More teacher training this afternoon. This time it was on the program Frames, which is a pretty cool program for digital storytelling.

Dottie had a big day on Saturday! She presented a research paper at the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, where she did an absolutely amazing job. Afterward, she wanted to go out to eat at The Penguin. There was a 30 minute wait for a table, so we enjoyed getting to know her friends and professors outdoors.

When I was a little girl, my sisters and I would pick these flowers and hold them under each others' chins. If our skin reflected yellow, that meant we liked butter. I realize they are dandelions, and weeds. But to me, they are little bits of summer sunshine in a field of green.

A female killdeer has decided that the courtyard at school is an excellent place to raise a family. She has a nest of eggs by the sidewalk. The funny thing about these birds is that if they feel their nest is threatened, they scream and pretend to have a broken wing. Apparently I posed a threat.

For a long time, the squirrels have been driving me crazy eating from the bird feeder. I've tried safflower seeds, which are supposed to deter them. I've tried hot pepper powder. I've even created a feeder just for them. But, they still like to eat from the bird feeder. Then I saw this little guy. Go ahead, Buddy. You can eat all you want.

"In the spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love." ~Alfred Lord Tennyson
And this is what love looks like after 62 years of marriage. The hands belong to my in laws, who were married in December of 1947. They remain completely devoted to one another, despite the fact that she is in an assisted living facility and he is still at home.

I am continually intrigued by abandoned homes and buildings I see out in the woods. I wonder who lived there? Who built it? What caused them to leave? This particular house was uncovered when they were clearing woods for a new development. I saw it when I was driving between schools today and had to stop.

Every day I struggle to come up with an idea for the photo of the day. And every day I'm positive I overlook something that would be an awesome photo. Some of the things I often overlook are parts of our everyday life. Thus, I present the door from our garage into the house. We use this door more often than any other. All our family uses this door, as well as our closest friends. You can even see where the dog scratches the door when he wants to come inside. I guess you could say this door represents the portal into our most private lives.

I have been at a conference all day today. The best part is that I re-connected with a childhood friend! The last time I saw her she was a senior in high school and I was in college, and we hadn't seen each other for a while before that. The crazy thing is that our lives have had a strange parallel, both became teachers and we both now work in instructional technology! It does my soul good!
