I was trying to take a picture of the sun setting behind a pond near one of my schools. This is the best out of all the pictures I took. There is still so much I don't understand about camera settings. It is frustrating at times.

Snow in Raleigh today! Donald and I took a walk to the lake. The woods were absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. I really liked how snow lined all the branches in the trees. If you look closely, you can see snowflakes coming down in the picture.

I spent part of my lunch hour today taking pictures in the courtyard at school. At this time of year everything is dull and brown. Then I saw this pretty yellow grass, so that is the subject of today's photo. I love the curl.

Jan. 10, 2009: I was delighted to see the bluebirds in our homemade birdbath this afternoon. I couldn't tell the other bird was a yellow finch until I downloaded to the computer. For the first time, I took the camera off auto ISO and set it to 400. Still trying to understand how all these settings work together.

For today's picture, I was trying to learn how to use shutter speed effectively. I set it as high as I could and then took the picture. I have no idea how long it was, and this is not the best picture, but I'm happy with it.

Jan. 5, 2009: I went back to work today and almost let the day slip by without taking a picture. I saw the sun setting on my way home and stopped to take a few pictures. I'm not happy with anything I took, but it is what it is. I also need to learn photoshop to get rid of the power line.

I went for a walk around the block today thinking I might find some interesting things to take pictures of. What I found was a stand of baby pine trees. I also created a new rule for myself. From here on out, all pictures must be taken with manual settings. I will never learn how to use them if I don't go for it. Aperture was set at f14 for this one.

I read a blog this morning about creating a photo journal, where you take a photo a day for a year. I thought this was a great idea, so here goes. Let's see if I stick with it. Today's picture:
It is very cold outside, it was 22 this morning when I got up at 6. Donald and I took a ride to the lake to start this project. My idea was to take some great landscape shots to start the year. Then, when we got home, we decided it was cold enough to build a fire. Donald had to split some wood first. I thought this was more fitting for today's photo, since this is a representation of our everyday life.
